Ball State vs Tulsa 2009 GMAC Bowl Pick
Written by Benton Vale
Tuesday, 06 January 2009

Hold on folks! There is one more insignificant bowl game to be played and it’s tonight. The MAC runner-up Ball State Cardinals (12-1) will take on the nation’s most explosive offense and C-USA runner-up Tulsa Golden Hurricane (10-3) in the GMAC Bowl down in Mobile, Alabama. Both Ball State and Tulsa were highly ranked during much of the season and were considered potential BCS busters. Each school was upset in their respective conference championship games. While losing their last game was disastrous for Tulsa and Ball State in their bowl pursuits, the GMAC Bowl ended up with a fantastic matchup as a result.

Sports odds professionals at BetUS.com have installed the Golden Hurricane as slight 3-chalk ATS and -145 moneyline favorites with a lofty 74 total. Cardinals backers are getting +125 moneyline juice as the underdog.

The GMAC Bowl, regardless of its lower standing in the overall bowl picture, should be a blast to watch and even more enjoyable to wager on. The 74 total will be a favorite wagering area for many fans. Tulsa scored 84 touchdowns this season while Ball State scored 62. If the schools continue their scoring surge tonight, you can expect the posted 74 total to fall by the fourth quarter.

If you like offense, the GMAC bowl has it. Tulsa is second in the nation in total offense at 565.1 yards per game while Ball State is 11 at 459.4.

With former coach Brady Hoke moving on at seasons end to take over the San Diego State program, his replacement is former offensive coordinator and current Cardinals head coach Stan Parrish. At least with Parrish coaching the team, the offense shouldn’t miss a beat.

Tulsa’s offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn  and author of the Golden Hurricane’s offensive philosophy is also moving on to the same position at Auburn. Malzahn will be on hand to coach the offense in tonight’s game.

Sports-Odds.com predicts that Tulsa will emerge victorious in the game. Overall, we see a difference in the quality of the leagues with C-USA the better of the two. Don’t be shocked if the total surpasses 80 making giving an OVER wager excellent value.

BCS Championship Game Prediction
Written by Benton Vale
Tuesday, 06 January 2009

Today, two days prior to the BCS Championship Game, I have made a decision. For weeks, since Florida and Oklahoma were paired in the BCS title game I have chewed the numbers, hashed over the matchups and looked at the players who will be playing. After all of that, I have come to the conclusion that Florida will win the game and probably cover the point spread that has grown from 3-to-4 favoring the Florida Gators.

BCS Championship Game PredictionSports odds professionals at BetUS.com has increased the betting line from 3-to-4 points favoring the Gators since betting opened earlier in December. The price of a SU bet on Florida is at -175 while the total is holding at 70.

On Sunday, Dec. 7, the BCS released its final regular season poll installing Oklahoma as No. 1 and Florida at No. 2. The stage was set for this game. It was time for the hype machine to start and it’s been humming ever since. Media pundits have been in a virtual tug of war over who is best?-- is there an edge?-- which Heisman quarterback will dominate? Every aspect has been analyzed and analyzed some more.

For me, I have to look at the big picture. I am looking at the best of the SEC battling the best of the BIG 12. And I had to wait until the Fiesta Bowl was completed before I could add the final piece of the puzzle. With all the bowl games played involving schools from both conferences, the SEC came out ahead (5-2) of the BIG 12 (4-2). Fortunately for the BIG 12, Texas was able to score a late touchdown to edge past heavy underdog Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl Monday night. The BIG 12 would have had major egg on its face had it lost that one.

BCS No. 7 Texas Tech got whipped 47-34 by BCS No. 25 Ole Miss in the AT&T Cotton Bowl, the only head to head battle between conference schools. Ole Miss dominated the game after spotting the Red Raiders a quick two touchdowns in the first quarter.

All season long football fans have had to endure the constant chatter about the BIG 12 South. Fans have been told how the BIG 12 had surpassed the SEC. The SEC was down in 2008. Now, I guess you can say the cat’s out of the bag.

So you say, how bout Alabama losing to Utah? Yes, the Crimson Tide did fall but I am not so sure that Utah shouldn’t be playing Thursday night rather than Oklahoma. Oh I know that’s another story for later.

Really, now matter how much talk and there has been plenty, they still must play the game. And I think Florida wins by a touchdown.

UFC 94: Georges St. Pierre vs. BJ Penn 2, is already being called, the “biggest fight in Mixed Martial Arts history”, and with good reason. This bout features two of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world, on a collision course, and at the peak of their respective MMA fighting careers.

In many of the experts' and aficionados' eyes, the top five pound-for-pound fighters in the world are: Anderson Silva (23-4-0), Fedor Emelianenko (28-1-1), Georges St. Pierre, BJ Penn, and Miguel Angel Torres (35-1-0). Consequently, the outcome of this bout will likely make the victor not only a guaranteed Hall of Famer, but also a true legend of the sport. “That’s a fight that I’ve wanted for a long time,” GSP said in a recent interview. “I wanna be known in the sport as the best fighter pound-for-pound of all-time… (On) January 31st when I’m gonna walk out the Octagon, I’m gonna make history,” the Sports Odds favorite, Georges St. Pierre [-185] assured.

The 27-year-old, St. Pierre, is without question one of the top-3 pound-for-pound fighters in the world. Currently at the peak of his fighting career, GSP is coming off 3 very impressive victories in a row: First, he absolutely outclassed Matt Hughes (43-7-0) for a second time, by submitting him with a well set up arm-bar. Second, he obliterated Matt Serra (16-5-0) and took his UFC welterweight title back, in one of the most one-sided bouts you’ll ever see. And finally, the unexpected domination of Jon Fitch (21-3-0), a fighter who was undefeated in the UFC (8-0) and considered the greatest test of GSP’s illustrious career. “My fight with Jon Fitch made me a way better fighter than I used to be,” admitted St. Pierre in a recent interview. “It gave me a lot of experience, and I think those fights make you become a better fighter,” GSP expressed.

After his loss to Matt Hughes in UFC 63, BJ “The Prodigy” Penn has stringed together extremely impressive victories. In The Ultimate Fighter 5 Finale, the 30-year-old Hawaiian chocked out Jens Pulver (22-10-1) at 3:12 of the 2nd round. Penn followed that victory with a dominating blood-bath (rear-naked choke) submission of Joe Stevenson in UFC 80. Most recently in UFC 84, Penn destroyed Sean Sherk (37-3-1) to retain his UFC lightweight title.

In “UFC 58: USA vs. Canada”, Penn loss a very controversial split-decision to the French-Canadian. Ever since that defeat, all BJ talks about its the rematch of the fight many feel Penn dominated and won. “(GSP) said Jon Fitch remind him of the Terminator, cause he kept coming back,” the Sports Odds underdog BJ Penn [+155] said. “Well, after this fight, if Jon Fitch remind him of the Terminator, he’s gonna think I’m God, cause I’m gonna come harder than that… I’m the challenger. I’m not welterweight champion of the world… I’m coming and I’m hungry. Very, very hungry for this fight.”
